Crossroads Virtual TapeServer (VTS) combines traditional tape backup methodologies and inexpensive, reliable disk storage to create an optimized data management environment. VTS is a virtual tape appliance and software solution that delivers scalable, high performance virtual tape for disk-based backup and restore. VTS uses low-cost disk RAID arrays that emulate the properties of physical tape to create virtual tape drives and virtual tape cartridges that can be pooled together to create virtual tape libraries. If archive and disaster recovery operations require data be written to physical tape, VTS efficiently writes virtual tape to physical media.

What are the advantages of virtual tape?

VTS emulates a tape library by storing data on disk as it would onto tape - but many times faster. With tape media eliminated from backup operations, processes are more reliable and the hassles of tape rotations and media failures are a thing of the past. VTS also integrates seamlessly with leading backup applications.

How Can Virtual Tape Support Disaster Recovery and Archive Operations?

Additional functionality can be added to VTS to build a high performance solution that securely supports remote “lights out” data replication, off-site disaster recovery operations and data archive and retrieval.

“VTS is a new, forward-thinking approach to our data management processes. We now have a fast, reliable and cost effective backup and restore infrastructure to support our current IT applications that can adapt to changing data protection requirements for years to come.”
